PORTO ALEGRE
Hire developers in Porto Alegre
South Brazil's tech capital. Strong engineering culture, UFRGS graduates, and high remote-work density.
Porto Alegre's engineering culture
UFRGS and PUCRS
UFRGS (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) is consistently ranked among Brazil's top CS programs. PUCRS also has a strong computer engineering program. Both produce rigorous, fundamentals-first graduates.
High remote-work density
Porto Alegre has a well-established culture of remote-first work. Engineers here are comfortable with async communication, distributed workflows, and working across time zones.
Strong in systems and backend
The tech community in POA skews toward backend, systems, and data engineering, partly shaped by the industrial and agricultural tech companies based in the region.
Underrepresented in global hiring
Porto Alegre is less targeted than São Paulo and Florianópolis by global companies, which means less competition for strong profiles and more available talent on the bench.
