The challenge
Parents looking for the right school — whether moving to a new city, exploring options outside their district, or simply trying to make an informed choice — had no single place to do it. Public school data was scattered across district websites, state portals, and third-party databases with no consistent structure. There was no way to search by location and filter by grade level, teaching style, or sector. No side-by-side comparison. No way to save schools and come back later. And no place to read or leave a review based on real parent experience. Thrive wanted to fix that: a platform where any parent in the country could search, compare, and evaluate schools in one place.
Our solution
We placed a full-stack developer, a QA engineer, and a project manager directly into the Thrive team. The developer built the entire web application: a location-based school search with multi-filter support, a school profile page with detailed information, a side-by-side comparison tool for up to several schools at once, a favorites system for saving and revisiting schools, and a parent review module where families can rate schools across categories like diversity, academic quality, and community. The PM ran sprint planning, stakeholder alignment, and roadmap decisions. QA ran manual and automated testing across all features before each release, catching edge cases before they reached users.
